A cancer hospital renting several clinic areas in an unintuitive building sought to find a way to make it easier for patients to navigate the building, and for their clinic spaces to have a more engaging ambiance. As the designer and project manager, I put together a team to map out several locations in the space that a patient might also search for. By having the team map their paths and to mark and photograph areas where they were confused, in addition to interviewing patients, I developed a key of areas that required additional signage or other "quick fixes". In addition to these quick fixes, I conducted workshops with hospital staff to determine the services provided in each clinic area as well as the type of ambiance they desired. By combining the ambient needs with the wayfinding difficulties, I developed a system of themed wall murals that would create continuity through the spaces, serve as visual and directional cues for the location of specific services, and create a greater sense of interest and engagement in the space.
